The Saiyans have arrived on earth and set out to find the strongest power levels on the planet. The remaining Z – Fighters gather to meet the threat and are greeted by a challenge : if they can beat the Saibamen then they will take on the saiyans themselves! The Z Fighters agree and start off the “game” well. Yamcha is determined to fight and apparently manages to defeat one of the saibamen untill it gathers the last of its strength and detonates killing Yamcha! Furious Krillin swares revenge…

The Saiyans have almost reached earth and as the Z Fighters continue training, King Kai realizs he has made a fatal error : he forgot to include the time it would take for Goku to return to earth during his training meaning that it will take Goku 2 days to return to earth and with the Saiyans arriving tommorow things are looking bleak. After telling his friends to call upon Shenron, Goku is wished back to life and begins his journey back down Snake Way. The next day, the saiyans arrive and announce their arrival by the destruction of West City!

Three weeks have passed and Goku successfully manages to capture Bubble. Meanwhile on Earth, Gohan continues to train progressively with Piccolo. Back on Kaio’s planet, Kaio gives Goku another task: Hit the speedy insect Gregory with a mallet. Two weeks later, Goku manages to hit Gregory. Back on Earth, Krillin, Yamcha, Tienshinhan, Chaozu and Yajirobe have completed their training with Kami. They then go their seperate ways to prepare for the Saiyans’ arrival. Now Goku starts his real training with Kaio, but will it be enough to beat the saiyans that are getting closer to Earth by the minute?

Six months after Gohan’s recovery of the giant ape incident, he passes his survival training and starts his training with Piccolo. Meanwhile, Goku has arrived at the end of the Snakeway, meeting Kaio. He realizes that the gravity of Kaio’s planet is 10 times that of planet Earth, thus needs to get used to it. Back on Earth, Krillin, Yamcha, Tienshinhan, Chaozu and Yajirobe begin their training with Kami. Back on Kaio’s planet, in order for Goku to train under Kaio’s teachings, he must attempt to make the master laugh. After Goku’s accomplishment of making him laugh, Kaio tells him to catch his monkey, Bubbles. Having Bubbles run around the planet, Goku must run on the planet with 10 times his weight.

Gohan’s survival training begins. After a length of time spent alone on a mountaintop, Gohan sees the moon, which causes him to transform into a giant ape. Rather than let him rampage unchecked, Piccolo destroys the moon, making any further transformations impossible, and removes his tail, before leaving to begin his own training. Meanwhile, Bulma repairs the scouter, and Yajirobe delivers a summons to Krillin, telling him that he, Krillin, Yamcha, Tienshinhan and Chao-Tsu are all to report to Kami’s lookout for training.

Kami takes Goku along with his body to the afterlife. Bulma takes Raditz’s scouter in order to repair it and find Yamcha and Tien. Piccolo takes Gohan into his custody and flies off, intending to train the boy in the martial-arts. In the after-life, Kami arranges for Goku to be allowed to travel to Kaio’s planet via the snake road. While Goku starts his journey along the road, Krillin unsuccessfully attempts to tell Chi Chi of her husband’s death and her son’s kidnapping. Meanwhile, Piccolo tells Gohan of his father’s fate and demonstrates to Gohan the power that the boy possesses by throwing him at a rock, which Gohan destroys reflexively.

The battle against Raditz continues with Raditz effortlessly beating both Goku and Piccolo. Piccolo reveals to Goku that he has developed a new technique that can help them defeat the Saiyan, the Makankōsappō or “Light of Death” but he needs Goku to distract Raditz while he (Piccolo) charges the attack. After seeing his father injured in battle, Gohan breaks out of Raditz’s space pod attacks his “uncle” severely injuring him. With Goku holding Raditz in place Piccolo hits both of them with his new attack. Before dying, Raditz reveals that two more Saiyans will be arriving to Earth in a year, Vegeta and Nappa. The episode ends with Goku passing away.

The mystery warrior reveals himself as Goku’s older brother Raditz and tells Goku of his Saiyan history. Noticing Gohan is also a Saiyan, Raditz kidnaps Gohan in hopes of Goku joining him. Piccolo visits Goku to form an uneasy alliance with him to defeat Raditz. With the help of the Dragon Radar, they arrive at the location Raditz is holding Gohan hostage and begin their fight with Raditz. After hitting Goku and Piccolo with a quick attack, he then informs them that there are two more Saiyans that are much stronger than him. Can Goku and Piccolo win?
